La Sierra University is a private, co-educational Christian university located in Riverside, California. Founded in 1922, it is a part of the Seventh-day Adventist system of higher education.Originally opened as La Sierra Academy, the school changed to La Sierra Academy and Normal School in 1923, Southern California Junior College in 1927, and then to La Sierra College in 1939. It received accreditation as a liberal arts college in 1946 and became a part of Loma Linda University as the College of Arts and Sciences in 1967.The School of Education, School of Business and Management, Evening Adult Degree Program, and the School of Religion were organized in following years. Today, the university is well-known for its academic and pre-professional programs.Graduate and undergraduate programs in applied and liberal arts and sciences, business and management, religion, and programs for professional education are provided. In addition, the university offers a wide range of services to the community through its adult education, resource centers, cultural events, non-technical publications, and professional consultation.The 100-acre campus, a lovely part of the Inland Empire, encompasses the university library, Stahl Center Museum of Culture and World Museum of Natural History, observatory, arboretum, Brandstater Gallery, John Hancock Center for Youth Ministry, and Learning Support and Testing Center. The library holds a comprehensive collection of more than 2,06,000 volumes and 48,000 bound journal volumes.La Sierra is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the Adventist Accrediting Association.
